Easy Fried Chicken Tacos

Fried chicken tacos can be a lot easier to make than you might think. You don’t always have to go out to enjoy perfectly crispy, crunchy chicken tacos. I’ve recently become a little obsessed with making tacos with corn tortillas instead of flour ones. I find the crispy, yet light taste and texture after frying the corn tortillas to be perfect. It’s what I want and need in a taco!

I was given some deer meat a couple months ago and made tacos with it. Sounds kind of freaky or gross, doesn’t it? I used corn tortilla shells and made the meat spicy… the result was pure perfection. I want to talk about doing the same thing with chicken!

Ingredients Needed for Fried Chicken Tacos

  • Chicken
  • Canola oil
  • Flour
  • Garlic salt
  • Black pepper
  • Cayenne pepper
  • (optional) Cornstarch, for extra crunchy chicken
  • More oil
  • Corn tortillas
  • Spinach
  • Shredded cheese
  • Buffalo sauce

You’ll coat your chicken in the seasonings, flour, and cornstarch. Then, you’ll heat the oil in a skillet or pan, frying the chicken on medium or high heat. I season my chicken just a little bit more right before it’s cooked through. I have a flat cast iron skillet that is perfect for heating and frying tortilla shells. I heat a splash of oil on the cast iron skillet halfway through cooking my chicken.

Once the chicken is almost done, I fry my shells. I let each side cook until it is a slightly darker yellow and doesn’t rip when being prodded with metal tongs (for flipping). You can cook them a few seconds longer for extra crispiness, or a little less for additional softness. I like the in-between stage for the flakiness with a slight crunch. The taste is awesome, compared to plain ol’ flour tortillas, too. If you enjoy salsa verde, like I do, it goes wonderfully well with corn tortillas compared to flour. (It still tastes fine on flour, but it’s perfect with chicken in a corn tortilla).

I love using spinach in place of lettuce 90% of the time. Replacing lettuce with spinach on tacos, especially fried chicken tacos, is absolute perfection to me. I’m a little biased, though, because I seriously think spinach and any type of chicken is great. We’ll save more of my positive spinach rant for another day, though! I hope you thoroughly enjoy your fried chicken tacos (and soon)!
