What Are Some Good Grilled Desserts?

It’s almost time to bust out all the outdoor cooking equipment and surprise guests with grilled desserts! If your reaction was anything like mine, your eyebrows raised in interest and slight horror at the same time. Aren’t most desserts kind of messy? They’re known for being sweet and.. usually messy. Oh, well! That won’t stop us! If you’re gonna have to clean up anyway, why not make a sweet mess at the end of your cookout?!

Chances are, you won’t even have to make much of a mess. (As long as you have some foil). That is what got me. I don’t know why, but I sometimes forget foil exists! I can make some of the following grilled desserts if I have foil! (You don’t need foil for all of them!)

Best Fruit Grilled Desserts

With the larger slices and pieces of fruit, you don’t even need foil or a skewer! Just slap those pups on the grill! Don’t really slap them on there, that’s very dangerous. Gently place them on there with the appropriate equipment. After they’re done and have cooled you may actually be able to slap them on your plate! I bet it sounds gross and cool at the same time.

With other, smaller fruits, you will want to have skewers and/or foil nearby to avoid mess and danger.

Okay, so what are some of the best fruits we could possibly grill?

  • Bananas
  • Peaches
  • Pineapple (we already knew this because we love kebobs!)
  • Apples
  • Plums
  • Watermelon
  • Coconut
  • Cantaloupe
  • Nectarines with gingersnaps (not the cookies)
  • Figs, cherries, and other berries (in a foil pack)

A lot of people seem to enjoy their sweet fruit caramelized with something tangy to keep it from going crazy over the flames. Honey and lemon seem to be a common preference for a fruit drizzle.

Other Good Grilled Desserts

If you don’t want just fruit, you may consider making a cobbler or super-gooey s’mores. For these grilled desserts, you’ll want a cast iron skillet of sorts or a great bit of foil!

  • Cobblers (blackberry or blueberry)
  • Pudding (banana, blueberry, even chocolate!)
  • S’mores (in a skillet for ultimate gooeyness)
  • Donuts (enough said… this could be fun for the people who wake up wanting to grill!)
  • Cake! (I found a lot of grilled pound cake recipes topped with seasonal fruits)

One thing is for sure, I cannot wait until my stepdad fires up the grill! I really want to try grilled cantaloupe now! Stock up on plenty of fruit and grill gear and let me know your favorite grilled sweets!
