Describing the Marinated Pork Chop
What is a marinated pork chop? A marinated pork chop is essentially a pork loin that has been submersed in a marinade solution for a long period of time. The longer you keep the meat in the marinade solution, the greater the depth of flavour will be. This simple definition does not quite describe how tender, juicy and moist a marinated pork chop can be.
What is a Marinade?
A lot of people, even those who have used marinades before, do not know what a marinade really is. In simple terms, a marinade is nothing more than brine. The purpose of using a marinade is to preserve the food for a long period of time (semi-cooked, raw or cured meat) and to add a new dimension to the flavour profile of the food. Unlike the simple brine that you may have worked with in your chemistry lab classes in high school, a marinade usually contains a rich selection of spices and flavourings. Think of it as a complex and cold broth that has the ability to lets its flavours permeate the meat (or the veggies) that is being preserved in it.
Selecting the Pork Loin
The first step to making tasty marinated pork chops involves selecting a stunning pork loin. When you are making any marinated pork dish, you should use all natural pork. Processed, cured or brined pork is not the kind of ingredient that you should be looking to buy. We understand that working with all natural pork requires a lot more effort, skill and time. However, once you have taste the dish, you will realize the importance of using all natural pork and the huge difference that the quality of the meat can make. It is also important to make sure that you buy pork chops of equal thickness (allows you to cook them within the same duration).
A Non-Complicated List of Ingredients
The list of ingredients that you need to create the perfect marinade for pork chops is really not that complicated. This is why you do not always have to splash extra cash in the restaurant to enjoy a scrumptious meal of marinated pork chops. The use of the marinade can greatly enhance the flavour of the pork. It can turn a boring homemade dish into an incredibly appetizing entree worthy of being served to your most honoured guests. You could cook marinated pork chops for your friends and family to celebrate a special occasion. It is a first class dish that is going to make anyone envious of your cooking skills. Here is what you need:
● 5 one-inch thick pork chops
● Half a cup of ketchup
● Half a cup of reduced-sodium chicken broth
● 2 minced garlic gloves
●2 tbsp of cider vinegar
● 2 tbsp of brown sugar
● 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
● Half a tsp of salt
●A quarter of a tsp of pepper
● One-eighth tsp of cayenne paper
Making the Marinade
Take a medium sized saucepan. Combine the ketchup, the brown sugar, the cider vinegar, the chicken broth, the Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, minced garlic, and cayenne pepper in the saucepan.
Bring the mixture to a boil and lower the heat to a slow simmer. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Get the pan off the heat and let it rest.
Remove two thirds of a cup of the marinade so that it can be used for basting the pork chops while they cook. The rest of the marinade must be poured in a large sealable container. Put the freshly cut chops in the container and seal it tightly. Turn the chops from time to time to get them coated in the marinade properly. Put the container in the refrigerator and let the chops marinate for a minimum of 6 hours.
Once the 6 hours are complete, you can drain the chops and remove the used up marinade.
Cooking the Pork Chops
You can cook the pork chops two ways. Some like to cook it in the charcoal grill, while others prefer the broiler. If you are going to broil the chops, then use a broiler pan that has been coated with non-stick cooking spray. Broil the meat for about 10 minutes (for each side). As the meat cooks, use the reserved marinade to coat the pork chops.
The internal temperature of the pork chops should be 150 F once they are cooked. Do not forget to rest the pork chops for at least 5 minutes.
